My Brother, Sam
The "I Can" Man

Despite early predictions and many challenges my brother, Sam the “I can man” has seized life! He enjoys every aspect and the people who surround him. The true definition of living in the moment. He is my hero and has taught me to never take life for granted. Sam is by far my biggest supporter up on stage, and part of why I decided to pursue theatre. Despite my love for this craft, I love the connection that theatre can have with everyone. Theatre is a universal language.

Sam has a rare disease known as Aicardi-Goutieres Syndrome (AGS). In short, Sam cannot speak for himself without a communication device or the help of one of his family members. From a very young age, I learned how to be a voice for my brother. We often participated in adaptive classes together, such as, art, swim, and even dance. I have grown up in a special needs community and will continue to bring awareness to them all throughout my life.

Everyday Sam inspires me to create and bring my craft to the world. We, as a family, enjoy and make the most of our time together and try to experience all we can now. The future is not guaranteed for any of us. Sam has shown us the importance and value in this. Don’t put it off and live and love as large as you can!

As I know my brother would say, "Never say I can't do it, always say I CAN!"
